A Deo Auxilium

Mission

“To train girls to be women of Character, to fit them to meet the strains and stresses of awider world, to be mature women willing to serve their homes, society and their fellow men with integrity, loyalty, honesty and discipline.”

Motto

“A Deo Auxilium”

The School Crest

“A school without a crest and motto is rather like a boat without a rudder. We had nothing to steer by, no noble through that belonged peculiarly to us to inspire and guide us, no symbolic picture to remind us of that through till our crest became a reality, an almost living reality. The crest seems to us a sentient thing, look down on us today, as it will on the girls in this school hundreds of years hence, encouraging and inspiring us with its wonderful symbolism of health, strength, purity, and cheerfulness.

In the foreground is the green grass-the symbol of growth. The school has grown since its first foundation, when its members were few, it is growing now and it will ever grow. It will perhaps grow to be the biggest and finest in our island, and grow to be famous for the fine women it produces, women whom their country will be proud of.

The Echoes of a Prestigious Line of Eras

With the dawn of the 19th Century, the dream of Girls’ High School became a reality, in the year 1879 under the divine shades of Reverend Samuel Langdon and his wife. The era witnessed a competition among several missionaries establishing bilingual and Svabasha schools country-wide which proved education for the young generation of the country. After having decided to set up High School Island-wide the Methodist Church unanimously agreed to a proposal on instituting a High School for girls. It was soon materialized with the creation of the new school at the Wesleyan School Chapel, Katukele on the 21st of May 1879.
